7th Multidisciplinary Conference
Stress and Behavior

Moscow, Russia. 26-28 February 2003

Support is provided by IBRO, International Brain Research Organization
Конференция поддержана ИБРО, Международной организацией по изучению мозга

Welcoming Address from the President of WFSBP,
World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great honour to have the opportunity to address the participants of
the 7th Multidisciplinary Conference of Biological Psychiatry with a
message from the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry.

As most of you know, the WFSBP is a worldwide organization with a
congregation of more than 7000 psychiatrists dedicated to Biological
Psychiatry. Although the majority of these psychiatrists are clinically
oriented, we have a large number of qualified researchers within the
neuroscience field. One of the WFSBP's task is to promote the diffusion of
updated knowledge amongst our members through congresses and educational
activities. Another important vehicle of promoting scientific knowledge is
the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry, distributed to 7000 of our
members with a complimentary annual fee. The WFSBP is very proud to have
amongst its members several psychiatrists from Russia. I am certain most of
them are attending this Conference.

Biological Psychiatry is one of the fields that have achieved considerable
and outstanding progress during he last twenty years, thanks to the
research in molecular biology, genetics and neuroimaging. However, we
should not forget that dealing with patients we have to start and finish
from the clinic, and take into consideration that the main tool remains
Psychopathology. For each doctor to go from Clinical Psychopathology to
General Pathology (including Neuroscience) and then progress to
therapeutics is the large task for the modern psychiatrists of today.

The Program for your Conference, which I received, predominantly represents
the high quality level we should always support and promote. In this
regard, I do congratulate the Conference organizers for the excellent
scientific program for this Conference. I am certain you will all return
from this Conference enriched by the knowledge gained and will be highly
motivated by the progress being achieved in Biological Psychiatry. I wish
you all the very best in Moscow at the Conference and enjoy the friendship
with your colleagues and appreciate the knowledge gained in Biological
Psychiatry.

Warmest regards,

Prof. Carlos Roberto Hojaij, President of WFSBP
Melbourne, Australia
