Wide-field transient surveys and supernova shock breakout | 60 min. |
Many transient surveys are performed intensively in these days and time-domain astronomy comes under the spotlight. In this talk, I will introduce the overviews of our ongoing/launching transient surveys with Kiso Schmidt telescope/Kiso wide field camera (KWFC) and Subaru telescope/Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC). Then, I will describe supernova shock breakout, which is the main science driver for KWFC project and one of the new discovery for HSC project. The shock breakout is the bolometrically brightest phenomenon in supernovae but it is difficult to observe the shock breakout due to the short duration and X-ray/ultraviolet-peaked spectra. The first entire observation of shock breakout is successfully reproduced by our theoretical model. And we estimate the expected number of detections with the above projects.
