Its 800 Mbytes/s link speed (bidirectional) makes SCI excellent at moving large volumes of data. The ultra-low 2.3 microsecond latency application-toapplication reduces the overhead of internode control messages, leading to the best possible scalability for multi-node applications. SCI's performance is achieved by taking maximum advantage of fast pointto-point links, and bypassing the time consuming operating system calls and protocol software overhead found in traditional networking approaches. For high availability requirements, SCI provides hotpluggable connections; and redundant SCI cards can be used to increase fault tolerance. Large clusters can be built using Dolphin Interconnect's compatible scalable switches.
