DEPARTMENT OF FUNCTIONAL BIOCHEMISTRY OF BIOPOLYMERS

VSEVOLOD A. TKACHUK

Head of Department, Corresponding Member of Russian Academies of Sciences and Medical Sciences, D.Sc., Professor

It has been confirmed from the comparison of polymerization properties of intact and tyrosine-modified flagellin that flagellin subunits can be included into the filament only in specific conformation.

More than 20 years structure and functions of two main proteins of muscle and many other systems of biological motility - myosin and actin, are studied by many different methods. During last 8 years a systematic studies on the structure of the myosin head and actin are carried out by the method of differential scanning calorimetry.

In the Laboratory of plant proteins a regulatory proteolytic system degrading storage proteins in the seeds of higher plants has been studied. Plant protease inhibitors as part of a plant protection system against pathogens are being investigated. New ecologically pure techniques to increase plant resistance to pathogens are being developed.

C-terminal fragment of a new protein with molecular weight of 210 kDa called p3D2 with 70% homology to human and rat protein kinases has been cloned from the Chinese hamster ovary cultured cells CHO. The p3D2 has been shown to be localized in nuclei, centosomes and associated with microtubules of mammalian cultured cells. The p3D2 has been proposed to be involved in the regulation of microtubule dynamics of processes dependent on microtubules.
