Russian schoolchildren have won the International Chemistry Olympiad

From 20 to 29 July in Hanoi (Vietnam) there was hosted the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad. It was attended by the winners of national competitions from 75 countries. The competition consisted of two rounds – the experimental (3 tasks) and the theoretical one (9 tasks).

Gold medals were awarded to the top 28 participants. The Russian team won three gold medals, which is the highest result among all the teams.

Gold medalists became Yuri Andreev (Moscow), Sergei Kuzin (Yekaterinburg) and Sergei Zaitsev (Moscow). Our fourth member, Alex Sadykov from Kazan, received a silver medal; to the gold he lacked 2.5 points only. The absolute winner was the representative of Singapore Sun Jiarui.
In the unofficial team standings the Russian team was second (with a record number of medals for yourself). The team has been taught at the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University by Senior Lecturer Ilja Glebov. All members of the Russian national team became students: three of them entered Chemistry Department, and Yuri Andreev – the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine.
