Conference theme

During short- and long-term changes of water and land habitats irreversible variations in local and continental phycoflora occur. Natural and anthrophogenic changes in abiotic and biotic components will influence relationships between species and may cause variations in their biological growth, and the range of their ecological and geographical requirements. Moreover, any increasing species diversity introduces different interactions between the ecological components. Changes in the phycoflora against a background of environmental variations can initiate unexpected and multilevel transformations in the biocenosis. The purpose of this conference is to present algal changes connected to short and long time periods and responses at the species, population, or community levels, with emphasis on their cause and consequences.
The scientific program of the Conference will include the Plenary Lectures for all delegates, plus the major Topics, Paper and Poster sessions emphasising:
- " extreme conditions" - "episode", " catastrophe"
- "equable development"
- "species protection"

The Organising Committee hopes that these phycological presentations will provide additional information regarding the response of algae to changing environmental conditions over various periods of time and identify further research directions. Abstracts of all presentations received on time will be included in the Conference Abstracts booklet. Full-length texts will be published in English in Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies.

Time limits for speakers are as follows: Plenary speakers: 45 minutes presentation; Symposium Speakers: 20 minutes presentation and 10 minutes question time; Contributed Paper Speakers: 10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes question time. Poster sessions will be grouped by topic, numbered and listed in the printed program. Plan a maximum display area of 80cm width and 110cm height and to affix it to a foiled board.
