The purpose of this article is to analyze the development and changes in the management of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces in the country’s first post-war years. On the basis of archival and published documents and materials the authors examine the changes in the structure of the air force and air defense of the USSR management after World War II. Particular attention is paid to the problems of formation of the administration of the Air Force HQ and formation of Air Defense Forces leadership. The main direction of development of post-war military air force of the USSR is considered, as well as their role in the national security.
