Basic information for foreign applicants to the
Department of Chemistry, Lomonosov Moscow State University

Foreign citizens are admitted to Faculty of Chemistry of MSU on contract basis. They also have the right to study free of charge if they pass the entrance examinations on equal basis with Russian citizens and get the necessary minimum passing score.

Tuition fees in 2015  - 2016 academic year :

BSc Honours Degree

Practical training

from 15000 RUR  to  40000 RUR

Tuition fee does NOT include the payment for dormitory, transport charges, and living expenses, all kinds of insurance charges and other expenses.   

Tuition fees are to be paid every semester.

The students are provided with accommodation on contract basis. Lodging fees start with approximately $75 per month and more depending on living conditions.

Academic year (for prospective Bachelors, Masters and Specialists) lasts for 10 months.

Fall semester

1st September - beginning of studies
25th December – 31st December - test period
3rd January – 24th January - examination period
25th January – 6th February - vacations

Spring semester

6th February - beginning of studies
25th May – 31st May - test period
1st June – 25th June - examination period
26th June – 31st August - vacations

Applications for postgraduate study are accepted from October 10 till February 01, for practical training – from September 01 till June 30.

The studies are conducted in the Russian language.  In case a student does not possess sufficient knowledge of Russian, he/she can study Russian at different levels at the University.

Visa support

To get an official invitation to the Russian Federation, please send the following documents to the Department of Chemistry by post or fax no later than one month before the classes start:

  1. A filled application form

  2. A copy of your passport with the following data:

    • Name and surname,
    • Date of birth (day, month, year)
    • Sex
    • Country of citizenship
    • Passport number
    • Date of expiry

The applicant should mention:

  1. Occupation
  2. Work place
  3. Telephone and fax numbers
  4. The country and the city where you intend to obtain the Russian visa.

Signing a contract

To sign a contract for studies at the Moscow University, an applicant should send the set of documents. Please, contact the administration foreign@direction.chem.msu.ru

The documents on academic background and medical certificates should be accompanied with their Russian translations and should be attested by the Russian Embassy or Consulate at the country where the documents are issued,  by the Embassy of your country to the Russian Federation, or by a notary public in Russia.

To be admitted to MSU you should pass the following entrance examinations:

  • A test in Russian Language
  • Interviews on the main subjects of study (chemistry etc)
