Ph.D. students
Students Science interests
- organic solar cells photophysics of semiconducting polymers and conjugated carbon materials (fullerenes, nanotubes, etc.) optical spectroscopy
Grants All laboratory`s grants
History
- About 20 years ago our team launched the spectroscopy studies of semiconducting (conjugated) polymers that are promising materials for organic electronics. In recent years, we have also started research in the field of organic solar cells.
Skill
- The students could investigate the key physical processes in organic solar cells: light absorption, charge generation, their migration, recombination and collection at the device electrodes. The students will acquire skills in optical spectroscopy methods for semiconducting organic and carbon materials: photoluminescence, Raman, electroabsorption, photoinduced absorption, etc. They could prepare organic solar cell samples that includes: cleaning of substrates and preparation of initial solutions, thin film deposition of active and intermediate layers by using dry (vacuum) and wet (from solutions) methods, electrode deposition, and finally encapsulation. The students will learn to work with the samples in clean inert atmosphere by using gloveboxes. Computer inspired students can learn programming microcontrollers, automating experiments, collecting and managing the experimental data, and/or improving their numerical modeling skills. The students will significantly expand their background by closely collaborating with chemists that develop new semiconducting organic and carbon nanomaterials.
