At lower redshifts, near-infrared spectroscopy (including slitless spectroscopy with WFC3 on HST) has enabled us to measure star formation rates at redshifts beyond one through the redshifted rest-frame optical lines. I will review current work on this, and look to future developments (in particular JWST).
