An East wind is a rare phenomenon that is similar to the Santa Anna conditions in Southern California. Here high pressure builds east of the Cascade Crest and forces warm down slope winds on both the west side of the cascades and the Coast Range.

The result is a rapid warming and drying (an very accelerated snow melt) in both the valley and the Coast. Among some of the highlights on this day are:

• Eugene gets to 79, 2 degrees shy of a record
• Salem reaches 81, 1 degree shy of the record
• Redmond, Oregon starts out at 18 and reaches 75!
• Mid 80's on the Central Coast
