For this homework assignment, you are

REQUIRED

to collaborate with at least one other student. You can work in group sizes as large as 5. Each individual in that group could be assigned a particular question which would allow the group to complete the assignment in a more efficient manner.

The Assignment:

Provide some information in response to the following questions. This is best done by using an internet search engine and typing in a key word related to the question. A good compliation of linked search engines can be found here .

You may use the Lab in 112 Willamette as your Internet Access Point. It is generally open from 4-8 Monday-thru-Thursday for student use as well as 11-2 Tuesday and Thursday.

  1. Find the 1996 Federal Budget of the United States on line. When you get there, you should be able to see a section entitled Historical Outlay by Agency. What is the funding pattern since 1980 for the EPA, the Department of Energy, and Military Defense? You may represent this data graphically if you like.

  2. Find some information on possible tidal power sites in the United Kingdom and report on their potential for power generation.

  3. Find some information on the design and potential of the Advanced Gas Turbine. What are some of the advantages that have been cited with respect to this device.

  4. Describe some of the programs currently underway on Advanced Battery Technology. What are some of the projected power and storage capacities and how will these new technologies help in the development of electric cars?
