Abstract

The use of microwave background radiation intensity and polarization to determine the radial and tangential relative velocity components of clusters of galaxies is proposed. It is shown that measurements of (delta T/T) on 3 cm and 2 mm wavelengths, with a precision of several percent permits the detection of radial velocities on the order of our galaxy's motion relative to the microwave background. It is also shown that it is possible to find the tangential velocity component by measuring the polarization of the scattered radiation. The existence of two different polarization mechanisms is discussed.
