This is a paper version of the SciSim Utilities help. If possible, refer to the HTML version, which contains
images and hypertext links.
SciSim Utilities is a suite of utilities to exchange SciSim input and output format with FITS format.
This document contains information speci c to SciSim Utilities only; for generic information about
SciSim, see the SciSim User Guide.

1 Introduction
The XMM-Newton Science Analysis Subsystem is the package to analyze the data generated by XMM-
Newton satellite and SciSim ODF les. As this package is currently under development, some intermediate
Utilities are developed.
Note that the Utilities are provided as is.
2 Installation
The Utilities are using and are tested with the FTOOLS v4.1 package.
3 Usage
The utilities are not integrated in the GUI, and can therefore only be used from the command line.
For help on usage of a utility, one have to specify on the command line:
utility
This will produce a help message.
3.1 image2sources
image2sources converts the speci ed image array (the default is the primary array) of the input FITS le
into a list of SciSim-compatible sources.
The produced list of sources can then be fed into GSIM.
3.2 reporter2pha
reporter2pha converts the output binary output of RFCSIM and ESIM to the OGIP PHA format.
3.3 reporter2 ts
reporter2 ts converts the output binary output of RFCSIM and ESIM to FITS format.
For EPIC-MOS the PHA is equal to ENERGY1+ENERGY2 if pattern matching is ON. Otherwise this
is equal to ENERGY1.
For RGS-camera the rst and second order wavelengths are calculated.
The FITS le is self-contained; that is, additional comments can be found in the produced le.
