All SAS installations are binary. We can not provide support on building SAS from source code. However, the source code for each release of SAS is available and can be downloaded for reference purposes only. Before installing SAS, please read carefully the software requirements, to be sure you fulfill them. Otherwise you would not be able to use SAS properly.
[14/02/2008] Please notice that we are offering a much more comfortable way of installing completely SAS 7.1.2. (SAS 7.1.0 + 2 patches) despite of the fact that the "old" way, as described below, is still valid for the SAS 7.1.0 version. In case you have SAS 7.1.0 already installed, the patches can be simply added. If you intend to (re-)install SAS from scratch, the instructions are given here.
Instructions for the "old" installation way, but still valid:
Download the specific tar.gz archives for your operating system and move them to a directory of your choice where you plan to have SAS. Let this be /top_dir.
Unpack there the four tar.gz archives that you downloaded. This will create a directory called xmmsas_20070708_1801. Move onto this directory.
Run the script configure_install, as
./configure_install
which will produce two scripts named setsas.sh and setsas.csh in the same directory, which can be used to setup SAS.
Depending on your shell, source either setsas.sh or setsas.csh, as follows:
. ./setsas.sh (sh/bash/ksh)
source ./setsas.csh (csh/tcsh)
The previous commands should be replaced by
. /top_dir/xmmsas_20070708_1801/setsas.sh (sh/bash/ksh)
source /top_dir/xmmsas_20070708_1801/setsas.csh (csh/tcsh)
when invoked from any other place of your system.
The setsas.[c]sh scripts take care of all the details required to setup properly the environment to run SAS, except for the SAS_CCFPATH, the SAS_ODF and the SAS_CCF environment variables, which depend on where XMM-Newton data to be analysed and calibration files have been placed.
