Research Interests: the nova outburst remains a fascinating astronomical phenomenon with many aspects poorly understood. Spectroscopy provides the best data to understand the complicated relationship between the two stars involved. As a spectroscopist I spend a great deal of effort interpreting spectra that reveal details of the outburst.

Career development of young researchers and public outreach are vital to astronomy, therefore I spend considerable time lecturing and working with colleagues world-wide on various research projects, in addition to serving on policy and oversight committees
