REU Students Supervised by Alan D. Welty

• Summer 1992. Mrinal Iyengar (Carnegie-Mellon University) worked in Larry Ramsey's optics lab for half of her REU work. Welty supervised the other half, which involved obtaining, reducing, and analyzing echelle spectra of FK Com (and other stars). The data were obtained at Black Moshannon Observatory. Her work is included in a PASP article (see Welty's publication list).

• Summer 1994. Peter Ratzlaff (Southwest Missouri State University) worked on a set of 403 Fiber Optic Echelle spectra of FK Com obtained at Kitt Peak during an eight night run. A pattern of linewidth variations suggestive of non-radial pulsations Welty & Ramsey found in earlier spectra was not repeated. Work is still in progress on this huge database of FK Com spectra. Peter also analyzed a series of spectra of the T Tauri star SU Aur. That work will be included in an upcoming AJ article. Pete is now working at Los Alamos National Lab.

• Summer 1995. Jennifer Kozak (Penn State) analyzed series of spectra of several classical T Tauri stars. She determined radial and rotational velocities and analyzed variations in emission line strengths in those data. That work will be included in an upcoming AJ article. Jenn will be a senior at Penn State in the Fall of 1997, and is continuing her work on T Tauri stars.

• Summer 1996. Amanda Kirby (Johns Hopkins University) is continuing working on a series of spectra of the Herbig Ae star AB Aur obtained in 1992, 1993, and 1994. Her goal is to determine more details of the circumstellar environment of that star.
