Far-<b style="color:black;background-color:#ffff66">Ultraviolet</b> Synthetic Spectra

These spectra span the wavelength range of the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope (HUT), 900-1800 Å. They also approximately match the HUT resolution and pixel size (respectively 3 Å and 0.5 Å). Each of the individual compressed files contains an ascii table of wavelength (Å) and Eddington flux (erg/s/Å/cm2). To convert from Eddington flux (Hlambda) to the more commonly required quantities:

Flambda = 4 Pi Hlambda
Llambda = 16 Pi2 R2 Hlambda
flambda = 4 Pi R2 Hlambda / d2

where R and d are the radius of the star and the distance to the star.

The full description of this grid can be found in A Grid of Model Atmospheres and Synthetic Spectra for the Far Ultraviolet Analysis of Old Stellar Populations (Brown, T.M., Ferguson H.C., & Davidsen, A.F. 1996, ApJ, 472, 327).

Please read the paper before using the spectra. These spectra are of limited utility, and one should be aware of the various caveats before using them.

The [+0.0] spectra. This is a 6.5 MB tar file that contains all of the [+0.0] spectra, with each file compressed via UNIX compress.

The [-1.0] spectra. This is a 6.5 MB tar file that contains all of the [-1.0] spectra, with each file compressed via UNIX compress.

The [-2.0] spectra. This is a 6.5 MB tar file that contains all of the [-2.0] spectra, with each file compressed via UNIX compress.

The model atmospheres. This is a 3.6 MB tar file that contains all of the model atmospheres used to generate the synthetic spectra. Each file is compressed via UNIX compress.

Individual synthetic spectra, compressed.
