Kermit Keywords

Kermit FITS Keyword Dictionary

Here is a list and definition of all Kermit FITS keywords, presented in the order they usually appear in the FITS header.

SIMPLE
FITS required; file conforms to FITS standard.
BITPIX
FITS requried; 32 bits per pixel.
NAXIS
FITS required; number of axes. Will be 2 or 3 for Kermit.
NAXIS1
Size of first (x) axis.
NAXIS2
Size of second (y) axis. Will always equal NAXIS1 for Kermit.
NAXIS3
(optional) Size of third (z) axis. Usually not present (implicitly 1) but will exist for CDS no subtraction or fast subarray modes.
EXTEND
Fits required; file may contain extensions.
COMMENT
Observer's comment about object.
ORIGIN
Who/where did this file originate?
TELESCOP
Which telescope took this data?
CREATOR
Which software created this file?
DATE-OBS
(Approximate) start of observation in UTC. See note.
FILENAME
The original filename this data was saved as.
EXPTIME
Exposure time. See this discussion.
COADDTIM
Time per single coadd. See this discussion.
NCOADDS
Number of exposures coadded in hardware.
NREADS
Number of Fowler Sample reads per exposure.
NRESETS
Number of times the array was reset between subsequent exposures or coadds.
NFRAMES
Number of frames read out in fast subarray mode.
READMODE
Read mode flag: 0 for single read, 1 for CDS, and 3 for CDS no subtraction.
READMD_S
Read mode string; the same as READMODE but formatted as a descriptive string rather than just an integer.
BIASFILE
Which biasfile, if any, was automatically subtracted during readout?
TIM_APP
DSP Timing board application number
TIM_PXMD
DSP Timing board pixel mode. 0 is fast clocking, 1 is slow clocking, and 2 is slow clocking with the reset line down.
TIM_PXTM
DSP Timing board readout time per pixel in microseconds. See this discussion.
TIM_RTIM
DSP Timing board readout time for the current subarray - the product of TIM_PXTM*NAXIS1*NAXIS2.
TIM_ITIM
DSP Timing board integration time.
SUB_COAD
Coadder used for current subarray. See this discussion.
SUB_OFFS
Offset used for current subarray. See this discussion.
SUB_X
Leftmost pixel of current subarray. See this discussion.
SUB_Y
Lowest pixel of current subarray. See this discussion.
CCDSEC
Subarray region coordinates. See this discussion.
AOFFST[00-73]
Analog offsets applied to each ADC channel. These numbers are the input values to the DACs; To convert to volts use V = A/409.6 - 5
OBJECT
What the observer thinks we're looking at.
PROGRAM
Name of the observation campaign or task.
FILTER
Name of current filter position
PUPILMSK
Name of current pupil mask
M2SLIDE
Name of current M2 mirror.
FOCUS
Focus position, in motor counts.
EXP_MODE
Exposure mode string.
MOTORS
Motor positions, in motor counts. The positions are listed in order as (Filter, Pupil, M2, Focus).
IMGFMT
Image format.
FSM_LOOP
Coronagraph FSM Loop status at start of exposure; Open, Closed, or Unknown.
HISTORY
If the FSM loop status changes during the exposure, the change and time are recorded here.
HANGLE
Target's Hour Angle as computed by the coronagraph computer.
AIRMASS
Target's Airmass as computed by the coronagraph computer.
PARANGLE
Target's Parallactic Angle as computed by the coronagraph computer.
ALTITUDE
Target's Altitude as computed by the coronagraph computer.
AZIMUTH
Target's Azimuth as computed by the coronagraph computer.
