SPIKE currently uses constants for all orbit parameters except longitude of the ascending node (large omega). For this, SPIKE uses a linear function.

Currently we use low order fits to the 10 week ephermeridies to determine the parameters for SPIKE.

It is apparent from these plots that the rate of precession changes even now (near solar minimum) on a time scale of a year. One of the goals is to adjust the rate and constant term in our model to minimize the difference between our predicted orbital plane position and the actual position over the time span of the model.

Log into planinst or planning.
run the following report: $report spss_data_dk:[planinst.kinzel.c1]lrpfit/par=(fit:sx_940890,cycend:1998.200)/out=lrpfit.rpt
Log out and log into the LRP account
set default [lrp.orbits]
Using FTP, transfer just created file (or $COPY it), into the LRP account
Using your favorite editor, delete off the headers etc. (need to fix this!)
To create the plots, run the MONGO file
$DO ORBIT_PLOTS \ \ ! warning time must be given in TJD(!!!!) You can get the range by examining the report you just generated.
Analyze the plots (need to fill in a lot here!), create your fits
Enter the data into a new control file
When ready, (link to creating batch cv-desc files), update the cv-desc files and make this constraint set the operational set when RPS2 will be released.

Long Range Planning Group
