SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 05/05/97

		SMOV STATUS & PLANNING MEETING - 5 MAY 97
			http://www.stsci.edu/smov/

NOTE:
The next meeting is May 12, 8:30 AM. By general consensus, these SMOV
Status & Planning Meetings will be reduced in frequency to once per
week, on Mondays at 8:30 a.m. for the month of May. Starting in
June, planning and scheduling meetings will revert to the normal
Tuesday morning PRESTO "OPM" that will have SMOV scheduling
requirements as an input. SMOV status & planning meetings will then
be held as needed with a smaller group of participants.

In the 77 days starting from the day before Release, we have had 44
	SMOV Status and Planning Meetings.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED THESE MEETINGS WITH THEIR TIME
AND TECHNICAL INPUTS. THE EFFORT HAS BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR IN SMOV'S
	SUCCESS TO DATE.

STATUS REPORTS

1. Observatory Status -

SI - An HSTAR concerning a status buffer message for a
NICMOS filter wheel retry was generated. The filter
motion in question was the F110W-to-blank. The flight
software load 4.07, scheduled for installation today, is
in part designed to alleviate the conditions that cause
retries and to eliminate the status buffer message as a
		response to retries.

	All other systems nominal.

2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and
	remaining SMOV monitors.

3. NICMOS Status

	- Engineering Status

	  Today's temps:

Detector 1 Mounting Cup temperature is stable at 61.14 degK.
VCS temperature is 99.1 degK and continues to show an
temperature increase of about 0.2 degK/day.

  	- Science Status - Nothing new to report.

4. STIS Status

	- Engineering Status

The MAMA high-voltage testing (7105) continued nominally
on Sunday. The NUV MAMA was ramped to -1750 volts and
everything looked nominal. MAMA dark rates seemed
marginally higher than Band 1 measurements, isolated
preferentially to a bottom corner of the detector. Analysis
is in preliminary stages and more info will be available at
a separate meeting later today. The next step is May 7 with
a full ramp-up of the NUV MAMA.

The CCD is operating nominally after being brought back
on line Friday, following last weeks CEB partial reset
		(See notes from 2 May.).

 	- Science Status

This week's visit of the CCD peak-up test 7071 appears to
have gone well, although scientific analysis is not
yet complete. In the point source acquisition portion of
the test, the filter offset was correctly applied. If this
visit is deemed successful, there will most likely be no need
to reschedule last week's visit lost to the CEB partial
		reset.

The ERO 7130 (GL229B) was reported to have produced good
		results.

5. FGS status

	    - FRR for FGS-1R commissioning occurred on Thursday, 1 May,
@GSFC and confirmed the plans to proceed with using
FGS-1R as a third guider starting in SMS139. Alignment
matrices for FGS-1R only will be implemented at this time.

6. FOC/COSTAR status- The FOC SMOV program is complete. The SMOV TTRB has
enabled the resumption of FOC science.

PLANNING REPORTS

1. Status of Upcoming SMSs

	- SMS125 - Currently executing.

	- SMS132 - Updates for the STIS CCD Bad Pixel Table are expected
late today or early tomorrow prior to Final Mode products
		   being made available for review.

	- SMS139 - SARs went out over the weekend. Initial Mode products are
expected by tomorrow morning. Will contain regular MAMA
operations and the first use of FGS-1R as a guider. The
MAMA rules for SAA avoidance are in place. The MAMA
operations in this SMS are being scheduled in the SAA-free
orbits, while the CCD and NICMOS activities are being fit
into the SAA-impacted orbits. A DF 224 FSW load is
also scheduled for installation during the exectution
		   period of this SMS.

	- SMS146 - Calendar building starting today.

2. Replans

	STIS

	- No significant replans at this time.

	NICMOS

	- No significant replans have yet been identified.

OPERATIONS STATUS

1. OPUS - No new problems to report. OPUS will be down for a time today
during software installation of OPUS 6.3.

2. Archive - No new problems to report.
