SMOV STATUS & PLANNING MEETING - 30 APR. 97 http://www.stsci.edu/smov/ NOTE: The next meeting is May 2, 8:30 AM. STATUS REPORTS 1. Observatory Status - All systems nominal. An HSTAR was generated on the one sample of a PAM motor temperature violation during the 7043 Focus Monitor. This is a known phenomenon awaiting a written explanation from NICMOS engineers that will remove the need for future HSTARs. 2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and remaining SMOV monitors. 3. NICMOS Status - Engineering Status - Nominal Today's temps (reported after the meeting): Detector 1 Mounting Cup temperature is stable at 61.11 degK. VCS temperature is 98.10 degK. - Science Status The team provided an update on the particulate contaminants first reported at the last meeting. On Camera1, about 120 pixels are involved, and Camera2 about 100. this amount represents less than 0.2 percent of the total pixels in each camera. The contaminants show a time variability which makes calibrations difficult. the contaminants first appear around the time of the large coronagraphic hole excursion. The team also confirmed the weekend's focus monitoring results, which indicate a slowing of the Camera3 motion in the direction of the nominal position. The focus moved about 0.2 mm in detector space (~ 0.4 mm in PAM space), using the plate scale method. 4. STIS Status - Engineering Status The MAMA high-voltage testing (7105) got off to a nominal start on Monday. The 2nd step occurs around noon tomorrow. The STScI STIS engineering requested ESS plots of the data by noon Friday, and ESS data from Sunday's 3rd step by early Monday. MOSES concurred. - Science Status No report. 5. FGS status - FRR planned for 10:00 am Thursday, 1 May, @GSFC -- SMOV analysis results, plans for PDB and on-board table updates (currently being worked for inclusion in SMS139), and any other details that need to be discussed and agreed to. (Being organized by Eric Isaac). 6. FOC/COSTAR status- The FOC SMOV program is complete. The SMOV TTRB has enabled the resumption of FOC science. PLANNING REPORTS 1. Status of Upcoming SMSs - SMS118 - Currently executing. - SMS125 - The calendar is complete. This SMS will contain the last piece of MAMA HV Turn-On (7105) on day 127 (May 7). - Final Mode is being worked with products expected out for review by this afternoon. - SMS132 - Calendar building is built. Awaiting instructions for CCD "bad-pixel" table. - SMS139 - Calendar building taking place today. Will contain regular MAMA operations and the first use of FGS-1R as a guider. The MAMA rules for SAA avoidance are in place. Awaiting cmd instructions for MAMA LVPS/HVPS management. The MAMA operations in this SMS are being scheduled in the SAA-free orbits, while the CCD and NICMOS activities are being fit into the SAA-impacted orbits. 2. Replans STIS - MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is currently planned for SMS118. Downstream MAMA scheduling has been assessed. According to the latest plan, regular MAMA SMOV operations are to start in the SMS 139. NICMOS - No significant replans have yet been identified. OPERATIONS STATUS 1. OPUS OPUS/Pipeline is down for a software installation 6.3. Expected to be back up by this afternoon. Data from 7143 and 7154 will be FTP'd to the users, as will the data from tomorrow's MAMA testing. Next week's proposal 7594 (non-SMOV) uses a "Re-use target offset," for which OPUS is preparing. 2. Archive - Received the quick fix for KW-related problems in processing STIS data. OTHER FRR for NICMOS FSW upgrade is scheduled for 3 pm today. The Project reports that the SM2 software freeze has been lifted.
