SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 04/21/97

		SMOV STATUS & PLANNING MEETING - 21 APR. 97
			http://www.stsci.edu/smov/

NOTE: The next meeting is April 23, 8:30 AM.

STATUS REPORTS

1. Observatory Status - All systems nominal.

	Weekend HSTARs:

		1. A NICMOS Filter Wheel 3 Retry occurred on day 109. The
		    retry was successful.

		2. A STIS bulkhead 6 temperature went out of limits
low for a short time. The limit is -15C and it is
currently back in limits at 14.8. This is understood
to be related to abnormally cold conditions because
		    the MAMA LVPSs are off.

		3. On 110/2028z, four status buffer messages were reported
when the number of images in the NICMOS buffer exceeded
		    100. It may have resulted in some data loss to the
7046 Internal Flats & Transfer Stability activity, but
this has not been determined for sure yet. The problem
continues to be investigated. Glenn Schneider also took
the action to touch base with John Campbell after the
		    meeting.

Gyro 1 tests on Friday looked good and further VEST testing is
scheduled for today with plans for its insertion into the
control loop later this week. The FRR is scheduled for noon (EDT)
	Tues., 22 April.

Pete Pataro reports that there will be outages today and tomorrow
for software installations involving NCC and White Sands. No adverse
impact to STOCC operations is envisioned.

2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and
	remaining SMOV monitors.

3. NICMOS Status

	- Engineering Status - No further NICMOS engineering status was
	reported.

  	- Science Status - Nominal

Analyses of the latest Camera 3 focus monitor data (18 April) showed
more small movement (~ 0.2mm) of the camera focus back toward
	nominal.

The NICMOS team now reports a small amount of vignetting in all
three cameras; about 8 - 10% at the edge of the camera (within
25 pixels of the edge). Except for camera 3, this is a new
phenomenon, i.e., within the last several weeks.

The limb avoidance (7053) data is being studied and may result
in a some favorable revision of the current earth limb avoidance
	assumptions for NICMOS.

The EROs 7119 and 7114 have been taken but not studied in detail
	yet.

4. STIS Status

	- Engineering Status - Nominal.

	- Science Status

The 7107 CCD anealing proposal has completed and the effects on
	hot pixels are being studied.

The last two data sets from ERO 7142 have still not been extracted
from OPUS. Jim Rose/OPUS to investigate today.

Some missing flat field data from 7142 is in OPUS but miss-labelled
as wavecal data. OPUS is working to correct.

The "re-use target offset" for ERO 7124 did not work correctly. The
calculation was for a +3 arcsec shift from the center of slit, but
got applied to the -3 arcsec position from the previous visit. The
target therefore ended up in the center of the slit. This apparently
does not invalidate the ERO data.

5. FGS status - No new activities.
SMOV mini-OFADS are scheduled for this week (SMS111).

6. FOC/COSTAR status- The FOC SMOV program is complete. The SMOV TTRB has
enabled the resumption of FOC science.

PLANNING REPORTS

1. Status of Upcoming SMSs

	- SMS111 - Currently executing.

	- SMS118 - Issued a 2nd set of initial mode products that
included commanding instructions for MAMA high voltage
activation planned for this SMS. Finals will be run
later today, and will involve a lot of commanding checks.

		 - The FRR for FSW and installation for MAMA SAA operations
is scheduled for Tuesday, 22 April. FSW installation
is scheduled for the next day.

	- SMS125 - The calendar is complete. This SMS will contain the last
piece of MAMA HV Turn-On (7105) on day 127 (May 7).
		 - Initial Mode products are planned for later today.

	- SMS132 - Calendar building will start today.

2. Replans

	STIS

	- MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is currently planned for SMS118.
Downstream MAMA scheduling has been assessed. According to
the latest plan, regular MAMA SMOV operations are to start
	  in the SMS 139.

	NICMOS

	- No significant replans have yet been identified.

OPERATIONS STATUS

1. OPUS - Nominal. Previously reported problems continue to be
	investigated.

2. Archive - Nominal.
