SMOV STATUS & PLANNING MEETING - 14 APR. 97 NOTE: The next meeting is April 16, 8:30 AM. STATUS REPORTS 1. Observatory Status - All systems nominal. Following last week's Safemode, the Observatory resumed science/SMOV operations at noon Friday (101/1600z). Over the weekend, there were several SRR limits violations while in the SAA, but there were no details available at this meeting. The PCS dropped to RGA hold at 102/1934z when FGS3 had problems maintaining lock on a faint guide star. All else nominal. 2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and remaining SMOV monitors. 3. NICMOS Status - Engineering Status - The cold well (ice) temperature is 59.9 degK, and appears stable. The VCS Cold Mask temperature is 97.7 degK., and appears to have switched from last weeks small warming trend to a small cooling trend. In general the indications continue to indicate approach to thermal equilibrium. The NICMOS Dewar heaters suffered two more SAA-induced thermal set point corruptions, one on Friday which was corrected per STOCC procedure, and one on Saturday which was corrected by the SMS-provided set-point refresh (See notes from 11 April). - Science Status - ERO data reduction continues. The preliminary data from the most recent ERO observation, 7111 OMC-1, "looks neat". Because of the safemode-induced delay in the Absolute Photometry Test (7049), the Team has been using other sources, including the alignment target, to determine photometric accuracy. So far the analysis shows counts at about 70% of the level expected by the Team's handbook, which, however, did not include the effects of pupil plane blockage. So far only Cameras 1 & 2, each in only a couple of filters, have been studied. But these results, as well as data from the FOM test, provide even more confidence in the favorable indications of a very low thermal background. The corresponding changes to the on-line Exposure Time Calcu- lator, which had been based on more pessimistic expectations, have already been made. As was noted in Friday's report, the exposure times for 7034 FOM test were designed too short to provide good PSF information at various FOM positions. In addition, it has become apparent the test was not designed properly to test for FOM position repeatability, which was to be a primary goal. For these reasons, the NICMOS team is requesting a one-orbit repeat of a slightly modified test. The request will be processed through the SMOV Management Team. 4. STIS Status - Engineering Status - Nominal. Some more low-limit temperature violations on the optical bench have occurred, but these have been seen before and are understood. - Science Status - Nothing new to report. The first visit of the STIS ERO 7124 has occurred overnight. 5. FGS status - No new activities. 6. FOC/COSTAR status- The FOC SMOV program is complete. The SMOV TTRB has enabled the resumption of FOC science. The FOC was recovered rou- tinely from last week's spacecraft safing. PLANNING REPORTS 1. Status of Upcoming SMSs - SMS104 - Currently executing. - SMS111 - Built but needs to be rerun to include latest FGS K-factors. Final Mode products are expected Wednesday or Thursday of this week. - SMS118 - Needs to be rerun to include latest FGS K-factors. - SARs were sent out over the weekend. - This SMS will, according to Rodger Doxsey's latest MAMA activiation plan, will include 7105 MAMA HV Turn-on. - The problems with the STIS doppler correction routines need to be worked out before further MAMA doppler-dependent activities can be scheduled. Harry Ferguson has provided a list of the affected proposals. - SMS125 - Being worked this week. 2. Replans STIS - MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is currently planned for SMS118. Downstream MAMA scheduling is being assessed. According to the latest estimates, regular MAMA SMOV operations should start in the SMS 139. NICMOS - No significant replans have yet been identified. OPERATIONS STATUS 1. OPUS - All associated data sets from NICMOS ERO 7111 had problems in CALNIC-A. Problems are being investigated; meanwhile all data has been FTP's to the Team. "Re-use Target Offsets" are planned this week for a NICMOS activity and a STIS ERO. 2. Archive - Nominal.
