NOTE: THE NEXT MEETING IS MONDAY, MARCH 24, 8:30 AM. STATUS REPORTS 1. Observatory Status - All subsystems nominal Battery 1 reconditioning is proceeding nominally, currently at a recharge level of 83.7 amp-hrs. retrun to 6-battery operation is planned for later this morning. 2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and remaining SMOV monitors. 3. NICMOS Status - Engineering status - The Detector temperature is ~60.4 degK. The VCS temperature is now ~99.5 degK Detector warming rates are now very small and VCS cooling rates also imply an approach to equilibrium. The Intermediate Alignment/Focus activity (7135) completed nominally. Analyis of this data shows that Cameras 1 & 2 are tracking each other in terms of a small delta in focus positions, while camera 3 now is at -17.2 mm in PAM focus space. This of course is well beyond the PAM range of focus motion and ~2 mm farther than last week's Coarse Alignment (7041) results. Because of the C1/C2 focus separation, 3-focus PAM operations have been requested by NICMOS and will be implemented in SMS090. (Some of the data from 7135 was lost because of a realtime command to perform a full memory dump resulted in the disabling of the science data interface before complete readout of all data from the buffer. The NICMOS science representative (G. Schneider) stated that the data loss did not impact the results of this activity.) At a Project-level meeting yesterday, NICMOS ARB reported that BASD analysis indicates no problem in resuming normal filter wheel operations. The decision was then made to re-enable filter wheel mechanism motion to respond to SMS-specified stored commands. The first instance of this restoration started this morning with 7054 - NICMOS Thermal Check on COSTAR deploy. Filter wheel motions are proceeding nominally and no "re-tries" have occurred. The plan is to reposition the selected science filters C1=F110M, C2=C3=F160W) in realtime following the post-COSTAR-arm-deploy portion of NICMOS 7054. Any re-tries experienced during these realtime operations would be cause to abort the procedure. Other Project-level discussions yesterday led to a request to rebuild the SMS090 and 097 to introduce additonal NICMOS focus monitoring activities. Plans for the revised proposals and revised calendars are in place. Subsequent weeks would also include one set of focus sweeps for cameras 1 & 2, and 2 sets per week for camera 3. 4. STIS Status - Engineering Status - Nominal. - Science Status - No report. 5. FGS status - Visits 7 & 8 of FGS1 7026 - FF3 Optimization have competed. Initial results look good; HDOS analysis is on-going and will determine if any further FF3 adjustment is necessary. 6. FOC/COSTAR status- no new activity. The FOC COSTAR mirror arms are scheduled for deployment today. The "ops request" has been submitted. PLANNING REPORTS 1. Status of Upcoming SMSs - SMS079- Currently executing. - SMS083 - Final Mode products are available for review on AP7. This SMS implements the SSR for engineering data record. This SMS also has been modified to include the Target of Opportunity identified lst week. - The STIS SIAF PDB updates for this SMS will be submitted in two segments, one for the first part of the SMS and one for later. The first update has been submitted. - SMS090 - This calendar is being rebuilt to include, per Project request, additional NICMOS focus monitoring activities. (See NICMOS report above.) A "10.2" commanding update is also needed for this SMS. The NICMOS ERO 7111 (OMC1) has been removed from this calendar, revised to use camera 2 instead of camera 3, and is slated for SMS097. - SMS097 - Being built. This calendar also will include additional focus monitoring activities. - SMS104 - Will require a "10.2 commanding update for NICMOS SAA avoidance and for STIS CCD annealing process. This update is on schedule. The annealing proposal (7107) can go in this SMS. 2. Replans STIS - MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is delayed (from 21 March) indefinitely. Affects on downstream MAMA scheduling will be assessed. NICMOS - None yet identified. OPERATIONS STATUS 1. OPUS - NIC2 and NIC3 observations for proposal 7039 went to trouble in CALNICA because they required reference files for an invalid filter. NICMOS team members were notified, and the raw data were transferred via ftp to the users. Meanwhile, OPUS is investigating. 2. Archive - Nominal.
