SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes 03/10/97

SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 03/10/97

STATUS REPORTS

1. Observatory Status

	MOSES status reports:

	- PCS reported another guide star failure at 068/0532, which

again was a WFPC2 Cycle 6 science observation. The

observation proceeded on one guide star in FGS3.

	- All other observatory subsystems are nominal.

2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding mnominally with Cycle 6 science and

	remaining SMOV monitors.

3. NICMOS Status

	- Engineering status - John Bacinski/STScI reported the

results of his investigation into thermal behavior from

day 045 to day 068 (Sat. evening). Prior to last week's

inflection point, the Vapor Cooled Shield (VCS) had been

cooling, per expectations, at about 2 degK/day. Since that

time, the rate of temperature decrease has varied but seems

to have settled in at around 6 degK/day. The last data

points may even be the first indications of a slow-down in

this rate. The absolute VCS temperature is now around

	118 - 120 degK, compared to last week's post-inflection

expectations of ~ 130 degK. The cold well temperature is

currently between 57 and 59.5 degK, with a rate of increase

	that is apparently constant.

	- Science Status - The STScI and IDT are in agreement on the

decision to proceed to coarse alignment and on the relevant

parameters involved in its exection. The Coarse Alignment

activity (7041) is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Prior to

that time, NICMOS will be brought from BOOT to OPERATE after

the most intense SAA orbits have completed.

4. STIS Status

	- Engineering Status - Over the weekend there was a Cal Insert

Mechanism (CIM) re-try, the soecond of SMOV (HSTAR 5973).

The operational workaround to correct the STIS data record

problem reported in the notes from the last two meetings was

successful each time it was needed this weekend for the

	STIS 7075.

	- Science Status - The data from the 3 iterations of

of Coarse Corrector Alignment (7075) look good. The Coarse

Corrector alignment activity is therefore complete and

successful. This, along with a PDB aperture file update

and slit location table updates, will enable the Point Source

Acq Test (7067) starting in the SMS083.

The "time-tag generic slew request" to correct the

pre-alignment offset in the UV monitor (7063) target position

was performed yesterday and the observation was successful.

5. FGS status - no new activity. Preparations for the FF3

Optimization Activity (7026) are in place for the

3 visits scheduled today and tomorrow.

6. FOC/COSTAR status- no new activity

PLANNING REPORTS

1. Status of Upcoming SMSs

   	- SMS069 - Currently executing.

  	- SMS072 - Final Mode products are out for review.

	- SMS076 - Initial Mode products are out for review.

	- SMS079 - Built and under internal review.

	- SMS083 - Calendar built and ready for SAR requests.

		 - Use of the SSR for engineering data record is

scheduled to begin in this SMS. Dave Taylor

and Greg Wenzel are making PASS preparations.

2. Replans

	- No new replans

	- MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is delayed (from 21 March)for a

minimum of 2 weeks. Assessment of downstream MAMA

	      scheduling will be assessed.

OPERATIONS STATUS

1. OPUS - Nominal.

2. Archive - No report.
