SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes 03/19/97

SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 03/19/97

		SMOV STATUS & PLANNING MEETING - 19 MAR. 97

NOTE: THE NEXT MEETING IS FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 8:30 AM.

STATUS REPORTS

1. Observatory Status - All subsystems nominal

MOSES reports that, per STScI request, the Secondary
Mirror was adjusted in response to the latest
monitored trends in desorption and the SMOV
alignment/focus plans for STIS and NICMOS. The move
amounted to -2.4 microns and was performed yesterday
	at ~ 5:30 pm.

Battery 1 reconditioning has been performed and indi-
cates a total of 84 amp-hrs of charge. This compares
favorably to the 78 amp-hrs measured in 95 and 80 in
	1994.

2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and
	remaining SMOV monitors.

3. NICMOS Status

	- Engineering status - The Detector temperature is
~60.4 degK and the VCS temperature is now ~99.9 degK
Detector warming rates and VCS cooling rates were not
	available at this meeting.

The Intermediate Alignment/Focus activity (7135) is
proceeding nominally. The Camera 3 data, relevant to
the determination of the latest Camera 3 focus position
and to implied dewar expansion, will be dumped starting
at 3:15 pm EST today. The Project has requested that
the focus postion analysis from this activity, in parti-
cular that for Camera 3, be expedited so that results
can be presented by late Thursday afternoon. The
NIMCOS team and Chris Burrows/STScI will do the
analysis. Code 440 (Gerry Repass) will organize the
Thursday afternoon meeting, the results of which will be
used to decide if it is safe to allow filter wheel
rotation for Friday's NICMOS IR check preceeding and
following COSTAR FOC arm deployments. The first relevant
NICMOS activity starts Friday morning at 4:18 am EST
	(080/0918z). The NICMOS/FGS Alignment activity (7039),
scheduled to start tomorrow morning at 9:36 am EST,
can be accomplished without the need for filter wheel
	rotations.

(Upon receipt of the 7135 data, OPUS is to FTP it to
"thunder" as well as to Burrows' workstation.)

An HSTAR had been written against a PAM motor temp
monitor which seems to have toggled out of limits
for 1 sample at 16 degC. Not considered a problem.

	- Science Status - Nothing new to report

4. STIS Status

	- Engineering Status - Nominal.
HSTAR 5982 was written against a CCD Motor Temp which
toggled out of limits at 14.3 degC. This is not considered to be real.

	- Science Status - The CCD UV Monitor that occurred
last Saturday night has been analyzed. The results
are within 1% of the previous UV monitor thereby indi-
cating no loss of UV sensitivity between the two obser-
bations. The data from the Spectroscopic Mode Image
Quality activity (7077) have been analyzed and the
results are very good (1.7 - 1.8 pixels FWHM). However,
the rate of hot pixel creation is 4 or 5 times higher
than ground-based expectations (~100 pixels per 10 days
at counts greater than 1 electron/px/sec), which is also
causing a slight increase in overall dark current.

The PDB update and table updates needed for STIS CCD
Acq Test (7067) in SMS083 have been submitted.

5. FGS status - No new activity.

6. FOC/COSTAR status- no new activity. The FOC COSTAR mirror
arms are scheduled for deployment on Friday. The NICMOS
request to delay the deployment until the lifting of
the embargo on NICMOS filter wheel motion (for the 7054
pre- and post-arm deployment IR check) has been disap-
proved by both the SMOV TTRB and the Project. Instead,
the COSTAR arm deployment will proceed as planned and
a decision to enable filter wheel motion for 7054 will
be made beforehand (See NICMOS status above.)

PLANNING REPORTS

1. Status of Upcoming SMSs

   	- SMS076- Currently executing.

  	- SMS079 - Signed off.

	- SMS083 - Initial Mode products are available for
review on AP7. The new executable for the
MEGG fix is expected on Wednesday.

This SMS implements the SSR for engineering
data record. This SMS also has been modified
to include the Target of Opportunity
 		   identified lst week.

		 - The STIS SIAF PDB updates for this SMS will be
submitted in two segments, one for the first
part of the SMS and one for later. The first
		   update has been submitted.

	- SMS090 - Initial Mode products are available for
review on AP7. Initial calendar build has
		   begun. SARs are out.

A "10.2" commanding update is also needed for
		   this SMS.

The NICMOS ERO 7111 (OMC1) has been removed
from this calendar, revised to use camera 2
instead of camera 3, and is slated for
		   SMS097.

	- SMS097 - Being built.

	- SMS104 - Will require a "10.2 commanding update for
NICMOS SAA avoidance and for STIS CCD
annealing process. This update is on
schedule. The annealing proposal (7107) can
 		   go in this SMS.

2. Replans

	STIS

	- MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is delayed (from 21 March)
	  indefinitely. Affects on downstream MAMA
	  scheduling will be assessed.

	NICMOS

	- None yet identified.

OPERATIONS STATUS

1. OPUS - Nominal. Science data processing is proceeding with no
new problems. A "quick fix" is expected to resolve
OPUS problems in processing about 5-6 hours of engineering
data from March 4 and March 12.

a "re-use target offset" which OPUS will execute.

2. Archive - Nominal.
