STScI Electronic Leave System
The STScI Electronic Leave System is a standard, fast and easy way to
request leave, notify others and learn when others are away.
The system is available at:
http://www-int.stsci.edu/leave/
The system has five different functions. Each function has its own
interface which can be accessed by clicking on the tabs at the top of
the screen. The functions are:
- Submit a new leave request
- Delete a previous leave request
- Display all requested leave for a division in list format
- Display all requested leave for a division in calendar format
- Edit your email leave distribution list
If you haven't used this system before, you should start with the List
and Calendar views to browse existing leave requests for your division.
Note: All information in the leave system is visible to all staff at
the STScI. You should NOT enter any information which you consider to
be confidential.

Hopefully, the interfaces are self-explanatory; but here are a few
notes:
Viewing Leave: List and Calendar
The List and Calendar command provide two complimentary ways to view
leave. The List view shows, for a given division, all leave for
each team. The Calendar view shows, for a given division, all leave in
a monthly calendar format.
Submit a New Leave Request
- Prior to submitting your first leave request, use the "Distribution"
tab to establish your distribution list (see below). When new leave
is submitted, email notification is sent to your distribution list.
- The dates selected for leave are inclusive. If weekends and
holidays occur between the selected start and end dates, the system
is smart enough to handle that correctly. The system currently
knows all AURA, ESA, CSC, and Honeywell holidays for the current
year. If there are other sub-contractors out there, send your list
of holidays to support@stsci.edu.
- You must enter an explanation for Travel, Family/Medical Leave,
and Special Leave. The explanation is optional for all other types
of leave. Remember that this information can be seen by all STScI
staff.
- The "Backup username" identifies the person who should be contacted
in your absence. Specification of a backup is generally optional.
However, it can be made required on a team/branch basis. If a
team/branch decides that backups should be required for its staff,
send mail to support@stsci.edu.
Delete a Previous Leave Request
- All or part of any previous request may be deleted.
- When leave is deleted, email notification is sent to your
distribution list.
Edit Email Distribution List
- Changes do not take effect until the "Apply" button is clicked.
- Notices of new leave and deleted leave are sent to everyone on your
distribution list. In addition, the leave is stored in a database
and can be viewed with the List and Calendar commands.
- It is is not necessary for you to include yourself in the
distribution list, as email notifications are always copied to you.
- Your distribution list can include valid STScI usernames, STScI
distribution lists, and internet email addresses. Personal mail
nicknames or aliases cannot be used.
- The distribution list is limited to 150 characters. To fit within this limitation, you may omit "@stsci.edu" from STScI email addresses.
Logging into the system
- The New, Delete and Distribution commands use your email username to
uniquely identify you. If you later access the system from the same
computer using the same IP address, the system will remember your
username.
- You can access the Leave System and other internal web sites
while at home or on travel
