Flash Report: SADE-2R Slew Test Briefing and On-Orbit Test

A briefing was held to present the plan to power up SADE-2R and perform an
aliveness and slew test. SADE-2R was powered off as part of the safemode
response following the failure of the solar array command profile test.
SADE-1R is currently powered and is the active SADE. The test procedure
involves powering up SADE-2R and verifying that the solar array positions
read by both SADEs are the same (within known tolerances). Following
verification the plan is to perform a slew under SADE-2 control to 83
degrees (a -7 degree slew) the return to 90 (a plus 7 degree slew) and
verify the proper profile. Assuming success, the plan is to return to
SADE-2R as the primary unit and proceed with a science SMS intercept. If
unsuccessful, SADE-1R will be used as the active unit and operations will
continue on the health and safety SMS until an operations strategy is
developed.

The procedure was successfully tested in the VEST yesterday and Operations
Request 19369-1 was prepared for the on-orbit test. Authority to proceed
was granted and the execution of the Ops Request commenced at
2013/047/14:59.

Test Results:

SADE-2R powered up as expected and the solar array position was verified.
The aliveness test was declared a success.

The functional slew test began at 16:06Z. The first slew successfully
slewed to the 83 degree position but the profile for the +wing was
abnormal. It accelerated quicker than the ?wing that had a nominal
profile. A meeting was held following the test and the Project decided to
perform further testing this afternoon. The earlier test will be repeated
and then 7 degree slews will be performed in the opposite direction with
the first slew going to ~97 degrees followed by a return to 90.

1. Updates to Presentation:

Minor changes were made to the presentation posted to the Operations
Briefings web page on the Systems Management SharePointsite: http://edocs.hst.nasa.gov/hstsysman/Briefings/OpsBrief/Ops_Briefing_On-or
bit%20SADE%20test%202013-046%20final.pptx. Changes are highlighted in
blue.

2. Action Items:

Action 1 ? SEs will review merged engineering data to look at data following
the safemode event.
Assigned: D. Smith Status: Open

Action 2 ? Issue a flash report following successful recovery of all the
SIs.
Assigned: S. Swain Status: Open

Action 3 ? Notify NCC that they should expect TDRSS changes as the intercept
SMS is developed (NCC scheduling issues delayed the processing of the
health and safety SMS that resulted in a six hour delay.
Assigned: D. Haskins Status: Closed

3. Waiver Approvals:

None.

4. Discussion/Agreements:

The forward plan will be determined after the completion of the test. An
email notification will be sent out for a review of the test results.
5. Liens:

None.
