James Webb Space Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a large 6.5 meter space telescope that will be launched later this decade. JWST is optimized to study infrared light from the Universe with four sensitive imaging and spectroscopic instruments. JWST's science goals include answering some of our most fundamental questions about the origin of the cosmos and life in the Universe. The telescope is being built by Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems for NASA, ESA, and CSA. JWST development is led by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is the Science and Operations Center (S&OC) for the JWST. The observatory has been named after NASA's second administrator James Webb, best known for his leadership of the Apollo missions.
