STScI Library Collections
The STScI Library collection focuses primarily on astronomy and astrophysics as well as ancillary disciplines such as: optics, systems engineering, computer science, information technology, project management, public policy, science education and social issues surrounding science in general.
Books
To find out whether we have a particular item, search our Online Catalog. In addition, Safari Online Technical Books and Books 24x7 (HANDOUT) subscriptions provide access to a searchable database of tens of thousands of computer books on a wide array of topics for a diverse range of skill levels.
New books may be perused either by visiting the new books display on the fourth floor or by checking out the online new books list or the STScI LibraryThing collection. We also post new book lists throughout the building. Search the full text of most of our latest new books with our listing on Google Books.
Journals and Magazines
The Library provides subscriptions to hundreds of online journals and magazines. A full listing may be found in our e-journal portal. Some journals are online only.
Search our journal holdings (print and online) by using our Online Catalog. The most recent issues of print magazines and journals are found on display in the Library on the fourth floor. Many older issues of journals which are available online have been put into storage. If you require an older print journal, Library staff will retrieve it for you.
Observatory Publications
The Library holds a collection of historical and current publications from various observatories. This includes a potpourri of annual reports, newsletters, observing manuals, etc.
JHU Archive
JHU Special Collections has a collection of documents relating to the history of STScI. Space Telescope Science Institute Records 1964-2008 If you have any documents relating to the history of STScI and the fabulous work done here, please consider donating them to the archive. We'd like historians to be able to tell our story 100 years from now!
JHU also has a collection "The Space Telescope," a group of records compiled by Robert W. Smith while researching and writing his book The Space Telescope: A Study of NASA, Science, Technology and Politics.
