In this talk, John Mather will outline how 20th centur y science developed in the context of world histor y. Touching on key discoveries, he will explain how cosmology developed from speculation to science, how the space age began, how the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite was proposed and what it found, how the James Webb Space Telescope will extend our knowledge, and speculate on what may come after the JWST. To be preceded by Tea at 3:15pm, and followed by a reception.
