The Telescopes Group houses astronomically informed, cross-mission expertise on the HST & JWST observatories, possessing knowledge of and experience with the optics, pointing and guiding, and focal plane calibrations, with an emphasis on supporting the scientific goals of the observatories.
The group's tasks include for both the HST and JWST mission, image quality & PSF modeling and maintenance, calibration of the telescopes' fields-of-view, and responsibility for the fine guidance sensors. The group is involved in JWST OTE commissioning, optics-related hardware integration and testing, and is home to STScI's JWST Wavefront Sensing & Control team.
Beyond the immediate work on the two primary missions, the Telescopes Group lends expertise and involvement in special studies and potential missions of interest to STScI.
