STIS PSF Library Input Tool...Help

STIS PSF Library Query Tool ... Help

To query the STIS PSF library you must supply one or more input parameters. Either fill in a box or choose an option from a pull down menu. Near the bottom of the page you may customize your output criteria.

The PSF_FILE field in the output listing is a link that can be used to download the psf fits file. As most of these files are in the form of multiextension fits files, many imaging viewing tools will be unable to open them. The user should instead save the link as a file on their local disk.

Detector

Choose the detector desired.

Filter

Choose one of the filters.

PSF Origin

Choose HST to retrieve a PSF clipped from an individual HST image, COMPOSITE to retrieve a PSF assembled from a number of individual images, or TINYTIM for images calculated with the Tiny Tim package.

Color Type

For most images we supply STIS colors in STMAG units. For MAMA PSFs these will usually be the FUV/25MAMA - NUV/F25SRF2 color, while for CCD images this will usually be the 50CCD - F28X50LP color. A given PSF will have at most one of these color values defined. If you wish constrain the range for the STIS color value, you must also specify the upper and lower bounds for the search range.

BV Color Limit

A Johnson B-V color is also supplied for most PSF images. Specify an upper and a lower limit to select images in a particular B-V color range.

Peak Gaussian Fit

Enter an upper and a lower value for the peak fitted DN value.

Saturatd

Choose a selection if only saturated or unsaturated PSF images are desired.

Peak Intensity

Enter an upper and a lower value for the PSF actual peak intensity in DN.

Focus Range

If PSFs observed at a particular value of the relative focus are desired, specify the upper and lower values in microns for the search range. Focus values in the PSF database were estimated for the starting time of each observation by interpolation of the full-temperature focus model values tabulated by the Observatory Support Group.

Output Parameter List

If you select the select on everything button all database fields will be listed for each PSF found by the search. Otherwise, only those fields checked in the output parameter list at the bottom of the search screen will be listed.

Subsampling Scale Factor

This gives the subsampling factor of the PSF. It will always be 1 for images of type HST.

CCDGAIN

Make a selection here if you wish to select only images taken with a given CCD gain.

X Center/Y Center/Radius

To find PSFs positioned in a particular area of the detector enter both an xcenter, a ycenter, and a radius in pixels. (1-1024). These numbers correspond to the actual pixel position on a full field calibrated CCD or MAMA image.

Target Name

Enter a target name. This must be an exact match to the name given in the image TARGNAME keyword. If it is necessary to search for the same target under a variety of names, it is better to search on a range in RA and Dec.

RA/Dec/Radius PSF

Enter a value for Right Ascension in (HR Min Sec) or decimal degrees, a value for Declination in (+/- deg min sec) or decimal degrees, and a value for the search radius in (deg min sec) or decimal degrees.

Observation Name

Supply a 9 character observation dataset rootname like: O4A507010

Filetype

If you only want a particular type of file select it here. Most observed CCD PSFs are available only in the form of CRJ files and most MAMA PSFs only as FLT files.

Proposid

To select on a proposid, enter a 4 digit number.

Exposure Start Time

To select a particular range of exposure start times enter the upper and lower bounds expressed either as a Modified Julian Day or in calendar format (MMM DD YYYY).

Exptime

To select observations with the exposure time in a particular range, enter both the upper and lower values in units of seconds.

Known Bugs

Some fields that take a numerical value require zero to be entered as a floating point number "0.0" rather than as an integer.
