STIS Cycle-19 Calibration Phase-1

Last Revised: July 15, 2011
Proposal ID: 12743
Title: CCD Bias and Read Noise Monitor Part 1
PI: Justin Ely
Co-I(s): Michael A. Wolfe
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Orbit estimates are TOTAL for all of cycle-19; assume 26 weeks
# 01 November 2011 to 30 April 2012

Total Prime Orbits: 0
External Parallel Orbits: 0
Internals or no-impact orbits: 182
Comments on orbit estimate: Orbits will occur once a day
starting in November 2011 and ending in April 2012.

# This section should be written with a GO audience in mind -- use
# Calibration plans in WFPC-2 handbook as a guide.

Purpose: Monitor the bias in the 1x1 bin settings
at gain=1, and 1x1 at gain = 4, to build up high S/N superbiases
and track the evolution of hot columns. Also GAIN=1 and GAIN=4, 1x1
biases through AMPS A and C to use in combination with biases taken
through AMP D for monitoring of the read noise

Description: Take fullframe bias exposures in the 1x1 bin settings at
gain=1, and 1x1 at gain = 4. Take fullframe biases through AMPS A and C.
All exposures are internals and fit in occultation orbits.

Accuracy: superbias rms: 0.95 ADU at
gain 1 1x1 and 1.13 ADU at gain 4 1x1, S/N > 1

Comments on Accuracy: superbias rms: 0.95 ADU at
gain 1 1x1 and 1.13 ADU at gain 4 1x1, S/N > 1.0

Products: Weekly CDBS reference files (superbiases) and
a summary in the end of cycle ISR

Expected FTE weeks for analysis: 2
Required turnaround on analysis (weeks): 2
Data volume (Mb needed for analysis): 10.5Mb
Special software needed for analysis? (Describe):
refbias, basejoin, weekbias, and refaver are needed for
the creation of superbiases. Superbiases are automatically created
with a pipeline.

Description of analysis Plans: Retrieve biases and construct superbiases.
These superbiases are compared to previous superbiases and the
image ststistics are checked to see if there are any anomalous
statistical deviations. Furthermore, acquisition of biases
through AMPS A and C will allow the read noise monitor to be
accomplished.
