PLANS FOR ALLOWING AN ADDENDUM TO CYCLE 2 HST PROPOSALS WHICH USE THE GHRS Because of the uncertainty in the availability of side 1 for the GHRS (see the STEIS article from August 9), and the fact that it may be too late for some to modify their Cycle 2 proposals, we have adopted the following plan: 1. The proposal deadline is still friday (August 16) at 5:00 PM. 2. Within a few weeks we will send all proposers information (via the mail) concerning the latest status of the GHRS, along with a discussion of possible alternative observing modes, if required. 3. Proposers will then be given the opportunity to write a one or two page letter to be attached to the proposal before the TAC deliberations. This would address what observing strategy would be followed based on the latest information on the GHRS. The affect on the amount of required spacecraft time should be explicitly stated. No significant modifications to the scientific goals of the proposal will be permitted. The deadline for this letter will be stated in the mailing, but will be no earlier than October 1.
