The directories below contain various simulations of data for HST's Wide
Field/Planetary Camera, including some simulations for the expected imaging
quality of WF/PC 2, the replacement for WF/PC with corrective optics. Each
directory contains a README file describing the simulations in more detail.

In each directory the individual data files are available in FITS format.
A compressed tar file is also available which contains all of the FITS files.
The data are generally written as 16-bit scaled integers, although a few images
required 32-bit formats to preserve dynamic range.

egalaxies Nearby elliptical galaxies, suitable for testing of surface
photometry. Compressed tar file is 0.87 MB.

m51 Simulations based on high-quality ground-based image of
M51 (NOAO). Combination of stellar images and extended
structures. Compressed tar file is 7.7 MB.

pn Simulations based on ground-based image of a planetary
nebula. Emphasizes extended structures, but has several
stellar images (including central star of PN). Compressed
tar file is 0.95 MB.

qso_fuzz Simulations of QSO with underlying galaxy. The galaxy is
a rescaled version of the M51 image above. A QSO is simulated
by adding a central point source at increasing brightness
levels. Compressed tar file is 0.53 MB.

star_cluster Simulations of a moderately crowded star cluster, including
versions with a space-variant PSF. The data set includes
5 x 5 grids of PSFs to allow testing of space-variant image
restoration methods. Compressed tar file is 1.4 MB.

ss_star_cluster Simulations of a moderately crowded star cluster (see the
entry for the star_cluster simulation above). This data set
only has a a space-invariant PSF, but has stars that are
located at sub-pixel locations. Compressed tar file is 0.14 MB.

emma Scanned image of a little girl playing the piano, convolved
with WF PSF and noise added. Not recommended for serious
testing of HST image restoration algorithms, but perhaps
useful for instructional purposes.
