Flanking Fields

During the Hubble Deep Field observations, 10 orbits were devoted to short exposures on "flanking" fields adjacent to the main survey region. The purpose of these exposures is to provide some assistance to groundbased observers in identifying galaxies for spectroscopy. All flanking field exposures were taken through F814W. INNER-EAST and INNER-WEST were two orbits; the others were 1 orbit each.
