STIS Exposure Time Calculator Fixes and Enhancements

The STIS Exposure Time Calculators (ETCs) have been updated. The updates are described in the "What's new" section of the ETC web pages. Updates include an upward revision of the CCD readout noise to reflect conditions operating on the side-2 electronics, and an upward revision of the zodiacal background. The updates are potentially important for those contemplating detector- or sky-background-limited observations. Exposure times computed with the STIS ETC before 15 August 2001 should be verified using the
updated version of the simulator. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Clarification Regarding E/PO components for Treasury Programs

As stated in
Sec 3.2.4 of the Call for Proposals, Treasury Programs are encouraged to have an Education/Public Outreach component. However, a Phase I Treasury Proposal need only summarize the planned E/PO component briefly (typically, one paragraph at the end of the Scientific Justification section). A detailed E/PO proposal should be submitted by the later deadline of March 22, 2002, as described in Chapter 10 of the Call for Proposals. The HST Cycle 11 E/PO Grant Program's Call for Proposals, to be released in the first week of February 2002, will describe in detail the requirements for E/PO components of Treasury Programs, and the available resources.

ACS Exposure Time Calculator Fixes and Enhancements

The ACS Exposure Time Calculator (ETC) has been updated. The updates are described in the "What's new" section of the ETC web page. Updates include more recent values of dark current and readout noise for the CCDs and updated DQE for the HRC, and an upward revision of the zodiacal background. The updates are potentially important for those contemplating background-limited observations. Exposure times computed with the ACS ETC before 15 August 2001 should be verified using the
updated version of the simulator. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Current Accuracies of Planetary System Ephemerides for STIS

Ephemeris accuracy can be the limiting factor for the size of slit that can be used successfully for spectroscopic planetary system observations that require an offset acquisition. STScI has just acquired substantially more accurate ephemerides for the Galilean satellites relative to Jupiter, which enable STIS to make more accurate offset acquisitions using these satellites. For the ephemeris accuracies of these and other planetary system targets, see the July 2001 edition of the
STIS STAN.

HST publications and the STScI Library (erratum to Sec
9.12 of the Call for Proposals)

In order to maintain the accuracy and completeness of the HST bibliography, authors of papers using data that have not previously been published are asked to send either a preprint or a link to an online version of the preprint to the ST ScI Librarian at library@stsci.edu or at the Institute address (for paper preprints). Note that this requirement includes both refereed and non-refereed publications, but *not* abstracts or poster papers.

Advanced Camera for Surveys GTO
Target List from PAEC File or Direct List Updated

Due to an error at STScI the correct list of protected targets for the ACS GTO team was not in place when the Cycle 11 Call for Proposals was released. The list now available (as of June 26, 2001) is correct, and the procedures for using it are described in Sec 5.2 of the Call for Proposals.
