Activities
for
the
period
23

Operations The
F/96
relay
has
been
operating
nominally.
The
F/48
relay
was
again
successfully
used
for
external
observations.
The
HST
safing
does
not
appear
to
ha
ve
had
any
adverse
effect
on
the
FOC.
Proposals
Executed
There
were
just
2
GTO/GO
proposals
executed
using
the
FOC.
2
CAL
proposals
and
1
GO
program
were
lost
due
to
the
safing.
DOB
move
The
COSTAR
DOB
was
moved
from
its
current
position
of
0.75mm
to
0.2mm.
This
was
accompanied
by
a

secondary
mirror
move
to
correct
for
desorption.
Both
moves
will
took
place
on
day
96.304
(Wednesday
October
30),
approximately
1
hour
before
the
HST
safing.
The
observations
to
verify
the
success
of
the
mirror
moves
were
lost
due
to
the
saf
ing.
They
have
been
rescheduled
in
the
96.337
SMS.

Update
on
the
HSTAR
filed
for
observations
using
the
F/48
Spectr
ograph
On
Friday
October
18th
it
appears
that
the
shutter
f
ailed
to
open
for
2
external
expo
sures
in
a
spatial
scan
f
or
an
F/48
spectrograph
GTO
program.
There
was
no
telemetry
for
the
first
of
these
exposures,
and
only
partial
telemetry
for
the
second.
The
UDL
(which
records
when
the
commands
to
open
and
close
the
shutter
are
sent,
and
is
unaffected
by
telemetry
gaps)
recorded
normal
shutter
open
ing
and
closing
times.
However,
the
science
data
indicates
that
the
shutter
was
closed
for
both
observations.
Analysis
of
the
pointing
shows
that
the
telescope
appeared
to
have
executed
the
scans
properly.
The
F/48
relay
has
executed
2
further
visits
with
no
problems,
including
similar
spatial
scans. Next
scheduled
use
of
F/48
is
in
the
344
SMS.
