1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5)

The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic =
fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a =
random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, =
and no anomalies were noted.

1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host =
Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of =
BL-Lac objects 1ES0525+71 and EXO-0706.1 in order to study their =
environments and their host galaxies. The goal is to investigate =
systematic trends in host galaxy type, unusual morphological features, =
nearby companion galaxies, etc. The observations were executed as =
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed FGS 6326 (Monitor the Long Term Stability of FGS#3 - =
Early 1996)

FGS#3 was used to make astrometric observations of star OF956 and =
other nearby standard stars which are located in the M-35 open star =
cluster in order to test the long term stability of the FGS unit. The =
observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6303 (Observations of Galaxies Underlying =
Quasars)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of low red shift quasar =
LTT9491 in order to study its underlying galaxy. The purpose is to =
detect structure down to the 0.1 arcsecond level. The observations were =
completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5953 (Galactic Bulge Studies: A Deep =
UV Survey)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of the UV =
bright stars in areas BWUV-4 and BWUV-5 in order to perform a survey of =
the galactic halo luminosities, effective temperatures, and star counts =
per unit of luminosity. The observations were completed as planned, and =
no problems were reported.

1.6 Completed FOS/BL 6202 (Cycle 5 FOS Spectral Flat field =
Calibration)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make =
observations of the relatively featureless white dwarf star WD0501+527 in =
order to make flat field calibration images. The observations were made =
through the 1.0 aperture, with all usable detector/disperser =
combinations. The observations were executed as schedule, and no anomalie=
s were noted.

1.7 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive =
Program)

The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking =
ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science =
observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with =
flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. =
The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were =
reported.

1.8 Completed FGS 6241 (Companion to W922 (GL831))

The FGSs were used in both the POS and TRANS Mode to make =
astrometric observations of star W922 (aka, Gleise 831) to measure its =
parallax and looking for possible companions. Several other reference =
stars were also observed. The observations were completed as planned, =
and no problems were reported.

1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6364 (Snapshot Survey of Proto-Planetary Nebulae =
and AGB Stars)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot survey observations of =
protoplanetary nebular system IRAS17441 to study its circumstellar =
envelope. The purpose is to discern the evolutionary sequence that =
produces axially-symmetric planetary nebulae. The observations were =
executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.10 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host =
Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of =
BL-Lac objects PKS1144-37 and PG1424+240 in order to study their =
environment and their host galaxies. The goal is to investigate systemati=
c trends in host galaxy type, unusual morphological features, nearby =
companion galaxies, etc. The observations were executed as scheduled, =
and no anomalies were noted.

1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic =
Distance Scale)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-4321 =
looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of this =
observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of =
10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were =
noted.

1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. =
These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA =
illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new =
superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems =
were reported.

1.13 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal =
Monitor)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration =
observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were =
taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the =
cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were noted.

1.14 Completed GHRS/2/1 6275 (Heavy Element Abundances and Isotope =
Anomalies in HR7775 and Chi Lupi)

The high Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two) were used to =
make observations of the Hg-Mn (mercury-manganese) class star HD193452 =
(aka, HR7775) in order to study its chemical abundances and isotope =
anomalies. This star is known to exhibit unusual heavy element =
abundances. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no =
problems were reported.

1.15 Completed FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of Spectra and =
Wavelength Calibration)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make =
wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue =
Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration =
observation was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, =
and no anomalies were reported.

1.16 Completed FGS 6264 (Parallax of RR-Lyrae)

The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the =
variable star RR-Lyrae in order to measure its parallax. RR-Lyrae is the =
proto-type for a class of variable stars whose pulsation periods =
correlate with their absolute magnitudes. The observations were =
completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.17 Completed WF/PC-2 6360 (A Snapshot Survey of "Radio Load" IRAS =
Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the =
radio load IRAS galaxy GAL-0749+2. The WF/PC-2 was used to discern high =
surface brightness structures in its post-starburst active nuclear =
regions. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were reported

1.18 Completed WF/PC-2 6646 (WF/PC-2 Imaging Dwarf Spirals)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and blue observations of =
the dwarf spiral galaxy D564-15. It is known to have low surface =
brightness with very blue mean color but no evidence of recent or past =
star formation. As reported in 2.1, the FGS acquisition for this =
proposal failed. No other problems were reported.

1.19 Completed FGS 6049 (Monitoring the Size and Shape of Mira Type =
Stars)

The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the Mira =
class star HD847748 in order to study its size and shape during different =
phases of its pulsation cycle. The observations were completed as =
planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.20 Completed FOC/BL 6053 (Extreme UV Stars in Omega Cent)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make =
observations of extremely ultraviolet bright stars in NGC-5139 (aka, =
Omega Cent). These stars were also viewed by the UIT on ASTRO-1. The =
observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.21 Completed WF/PC-2 6286 (Nuclei of Nearly Normal Galaxies (WC12): =
Cycle 5)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nuclei of the nearly =
normal galaxy NGC-4649 to measure the space density profile of luminous =
material and the nuclear color gradients in this object. The images will =
be searched for bright stars, inner globular clusters, and absorbing =
interstellar dust. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no =
anomalies were noted.

1.22 Completed WF/PC-2 5920 (Extragalactic Globular Cluster System)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations to compile a catalogue =
of the extragalactic globular clusters in galaxy NGC-5846. A luminosity =
function will be derived which should be complete down to the 27th =
magnitude in V. The observations was completed as planned, and no =
problems were reported.

1.23 Completed WF/PC-2 6117 (Fliers in Planetary Nebulae)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of planetary nebula =
NGC-7009 in order to look for fliers. A flier is plasma knot embedded =
within highly ionized elliptical and bipolar planetary nebulae. As =
mentioned in 5.1, the FGS acquisition failed to fine lock backup on FGS =
#3 only. No other anomalies were noted.

1.24 Completed FOS/BL 6476 (A Study of Circumstellar Material Formed =
in a Hydrogen-Deficient Environment)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make low =
resolution ultraviolet spectral observations of the hot variable CrB-type =
star V348-SGR in order to study the curcumstellar material formed in its =
Hydrogern-deficient environment. The objective is to study the newly =
formed dust associated with the brightness changes: fullerenes are one =
possible component of the dust. The observations were completed as =
planned, and no problems were reported.

was exceeded. HSTAR 5585 was written.

At 119/190852Z, as documented in HSTAR 5586, the acquisition =

2.2 FHST Updates:

2.3 Operations Notes:

No significant problems were reported at HST operations =
experienced a relatively quiet week-end.

GSFC Internal Simulation #4 (EVA #2) will be conducted on =
Thursday.
