DAILY REPORT #1318

PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z
Daily Status Report as of 033/0000Z

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High
Galactic Latitude)

The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations
to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky
survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were
reported.

1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High
Galactic Latitude)

The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as
part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel
with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5494 (Stellar Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby
Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of one bright star
M-33-OB2-4 in galaxy M-33 to learn more about the stellar wind, mass loss
rate, and abundances of the target star. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5574 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Polarization Proposal)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of G191B2B to obtain both
polarized and unpolarized images of the target to calibrate the instrument. A
visual flat observations was also taken. The observations were completed as
planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby
active galactic nuclei of MARK1157 and MARK1058 to study the interactions
between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these
AGNs. A guide star acquisition failed to make Single Star Fine Lock at
032/1029Z, but did achieve Single Star Coarse Track. The Shutter opened and
the exposure was made in this degraded guiding mode. No other anomalies were
noted.

1.6 Completed FGS 6138 (Long Term Stability Monitoring of FGS #3)

FGS #3 was used to make astrometric calibration observations of stars
OF52, OF63-REF, OF89-REF, OF91-REF, OF79-REF, OF51-REF, OF69-REF, et. al.
located on open star cluster M-35 to monitor the long term stability of the
FGS. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were
noted.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5372 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, Low
Galactic Latitude, C-R Split)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make low galactic latitude observations taken
in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were
completed as scheduled in fine lock without apparent anomaly.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance
Scale: Cycle 4 High)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-3621 to be used in
measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The
observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted.

1.9 Completed GHRS/2 5715 (Probing the Voids II - Carryover)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make
observations of the active galactic nuclei located in galaxy MARK421. This
galaxy is known to be located behind an extra-galactic void. This is to study
the nature, abundance and distribution of H I absorbing clouds. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported.
