Daily Status Report as of 223/0000Z

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed GHRS/1 5866 (NLTE Spectral Analysis of PG1159 Type Stars)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make a NLTE
spectrographic analysis of STAR-0130 to study the GW Vir instability strip
and the photospheric parameters and composition. The observations were
completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The
observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low Mass Binaries and the Luminosity Function.
)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary star
system MT011 ( A late-type M class dwarf) to study the local stellar
luminosity function. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no
anomalies were noted.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor
- Vis Flats)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images.
Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were
executed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.5 Completed GHRS/1 5866 (NLTE Spectral Analysis of PG1159 Type Stars)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make a NLTE
spectrographic analysis of STAR-2131 to study the GW Vir instability strip
and the photospheric parameters and composition. The observations were
completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C135.0 to
study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.7 Completed FOS/RD 6015 (Ultraviolet Emissions From Saturn's Rings and
Ring Atmosphere)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make ultraviolet
spectrographic observations of Saturn's Rings to study the extent of neutral
gas above the ring plane. The observations are being taken during the time
around the ring plane crossing. The observations were executed as scheduled,
and no anomalies were noted.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5836 (Saturn Ring Plane Crossing Observations in
August and November 1995)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the ring's of the planet
Saturn during the ring plan crossing in order to determine their thickness
and distortion. The moons Pan and Atlas will also be observed. The
observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6216 (Saturn's Ring Atmosphere)

The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of Saturn's rings when they are
edge-on to the Earth. The objective is to detect an "OH atmosphere"
associated with the rings. Different filters will be used to discriminate
between dust and OH emission, and to subtract scattered light. These
observations will be used to determine exposure times for a later series of
ring-plane crossing observations in August. The proposal completed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

2.3 Operations Notes:

A GRTS RF test (OR 11514) was conducted from 222/2100Z through 2205Z.
It was a partial success, and received a strong signal level acquisition,
which was approximately +5 dB margin. The STOCC was unable to establish lock
on the data. It appeared to be a comm processor set-up problem, and the I&C
SE working with the GNOM was able to resolve the problem.
