Daily Status Report as of 063/1200Z.

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal
Monitor 3: Darks)

The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30 minute long dark exposures
to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to
monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The
observations were received and examined in the OSS and looked as
expected.

1.2 Completed FGS 5061 (Linking HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference
Frame, Part 4 of 6)

The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make astrometric observations
of star NEWEGOB-34 whose apparent position lies near an
extragalactic object. The intent of these observations is to tie the
reference frame to the extragalactic reference frame. Except for a
few recenterings, all observations were reported to be nominal.

1.3 Completed FGS 5331 (Linking HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference
Frame, FT1-11, Part 7)

Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make astrometric observations of
stars, 1150+497IN and INCA221-72 and nearby extragalactic objects
which are known to have a small angular separation. The baseline
guide star acquisition got fine lock. There was one reported
recentering event.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High
Galactic Latitude)

The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations
to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep
sky survey. The main purpose of these observations is to study the
evolution and structure of galaxies. Eight observations were
received and displayed in the OSS. Many of the observations received
recentering events, but otherwise looked okay. One observation still
remains on the science tape recorder.

1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5209 (Luminous Stars in Old Stellar Populations)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster
NGC-6681 to look at old luminous stars. Observations were made at
both the visible and ultraviolet wavelengths. The observations were
successfully completed in fine lock, and they were monitored by the
OSS. No anomalies were noted.

1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5436 (Age and Population of Super Metal Rich
Globular Clusters)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the super metal rich
globular cluster TARAZAN-1 located in the central bulge of our
galaxy. The hope is to determine the age of this cluster. All
observations were completed in fine lock. The observations were
monitored in the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No
anomalies were noted.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5204 (The Disk Around Young Stellar Objects)

The WF/PC-2 Camera was used to make observations of the variable
proto star T-Tauri located in the Taurus molecular cloud to examine
the disk known to be around this stellar object. It is hoped that
this will determine the physical properties, albedo, particle size,
and its spatial distribution of particles in the disk. The baseline
acquisition occurred during LOS. The observations were made in fine
lock, and the recentering counter had not been incremented. The
observation complete as expected.

1.8 Completed FGS 5174 (Astrometric Companions Search: Cycle 4)


FGS #3 was used to make astrometric observations of the possible
binary dwarf star BD+68D946 to look for an astrometric unseen low
mass companion. The OSS monitored the observations and assessed the
data quality. No anomalies were noted.

1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4)

The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations
to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30
degrees. These are randomly chosen fields to sample very low
luminosity stars in the solar galactic neighborhood, galactic halo
objects, and distant galaxies. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5233 (Stellar Populations and Clusters in
Elliptical Galaxies (WC08))

The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep observations of elliptical galaxy
NGC-4881 which is located in the Coma Cluster of galaxies to study
its stellar population. This is to help determine the distance to
the Coma Cluster. The observations were complete as scheduled, and
no anomalies wereoted.
