HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
DAILY REPORT#1138

PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST
Daily Status Report as of 133/1200Z.

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination fo the Extragalactic Distance
Scale: Cycle 4 High)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxies NGC-4536, and
NGC-4321 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable
stars within the galaxies. Three images were received and displayed.
They were reported to look fine. Two more images remain on the
Science Tape Recorder #1, and will be analyzed later.

1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal
Monitor 3: Darks)

The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain a 30-minute long, dark exposure to
provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor
and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The image was received
and displayed in the OSS. It was reported to look okay.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5233 (Stellar Populations and Clusters in
Elliptical Galaxies (WC08))

The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep observations of elliptical galaxy
NGC-3379 which is located in the Coma Cluster of galaxies to study
its stellar population. The observations were complete as scheduled,
and no anomalies were noted.
