HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
DAILY REPORT #1141

PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST
Daily Status Report as of 138/1200Z.

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed GHRS/1 5373 (Excitation Processes for the Ultraviolet
Dayglow of Jupiter: Cycle 4)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make
observations looking for molecular hydrogen emissions in the Jovian
atmosphere. Four observations were received and displayed in the
OSS. They all were reported to be okay.

1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5640 (Cycle 4 DD HST Observations of Comet
Shoemaker-Levy (1993E) for May 19)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the comet
Shoemaker-Levy. The observations were executed as scheduled. The
data remains on Science Tape Recorder #3, and it will be analyzed
later. No anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-4289. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and the science data
remains of Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. No
anomalies were noted.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5394 (Interstellar Abundances in the SMC:
Implications for QSO Absorption).

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the field around
eclipsing binary star HD5980 (aka, SK78) located in NGC-346. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and the science data
remains of Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. No
anomalies were noted.

1.5 Completed GHRS/1 5417 (A Search for the Physical Processes
on Jupiter)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used as part of a
program to observe atomic hydrogen emission at different latitude
and longitudes on the planet Jupiter. The observations were executed
as scheduled. Five observations were received and displayed. They
were reported to look okay. More science data remains of Science
Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. No anomalies were
noted.

1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5104 (Peculiar and Interacting Galaxies (WC01):
Cycle 4)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy APR230. The OSS
monitored the observations, assessed and the data quality. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and the science data
remains of Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. No
anomalies were noted.

1.7 Completed FOS 5579 (Cycle 4 Test: To Determine FOS Polarity Mode)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make internal WAVE
calibration observations of its polarization capabilities. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and the science data
remains of Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be analyzed later. No
anomalies were noted.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5450 (Host Galaxies and Cluster Environments of
Quasars)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of quasar QSO-121228 to
study the properties of its host galaxy and any surrounding cluster
environment. The observations were executed as scheduled, and the
science data remains of Science Tape Recorder #3. It will be
analyzed later. No anomalies were noted.

1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration
Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of
the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were
executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.10 Completed FOS/RD 5441 (The Inner Regions of Quasars: Cycle 4)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red side) was used to make
observations of quasar B21351+31. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5351 (Properties of Intermediate Redshift
Galactic Disks Causing Damped Lyman-Alpha)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations to study the diffuse
material at intermediate redshifts that is identified by absorbing
Lyman-Alpha spectrum from quasar PKS1229-02. The observations were
executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.
