HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in
Magellanic Cluster Cores))

The WF/PC-2 was used to make short exposure snapshot images of the
blue straggler stars located in populous cluster NGC-2004. A
populous cluster is the Magellanic Cloud equivalent of a galactic
globular cluster. The observations were made with two different
color filters. The intent is to find out if blue straggler stars
exist within these clusters. Two observations were executed as
scheduled. One was received and displayed, the other still remains
on the science tape recorder. No anomalies were noted.

1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5561 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration:
Internal Monitor 2. Flats)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set ultraviolet flat calibration
images to monitor flat field stability and the stability of the
analog-to-digital converters. Eight observations were received and
displayed. Three were okay, four were saturated, and one was
underexposed.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5632 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Preflash Test)

The WF/PC-2 Was used to study variations in sensitivity along the
columns of each CCD by making images of test globular cluster Omega
Centauri (aka, NGC-5139). Three images were received and displayed.
They were reported to look okay.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 cycle 4 Photometric Calibration
Monitor: UV/Opt STD)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of
ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582 and monitor the photometric
stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2. The observations
were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.5 Completed GHRS/2 5597 (GHRS ECH-B Sensitivity Calibration: Cycle 4)

The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to attempt to make an
ultraviolet flat calibration observations using standard star
MU-Columbia to calibrate the sensitivity of Echelle-B. Both the
Large Science Aperture (LSA) and Small Science Aperture (SSA) were
to be used. Because of a guide star acquisition failure, none of the
observations for this proposal were executed. The observations were
marked as failed.

1.6 Completed FGS 5174 (Astrometric Companion Search: Cycle 4)

FGS #3 was used to make astrometric observations of the possible
binary dwarf star BD+67D552 to look for an astrometric unseen low
mass companion. The OSS monitored the observations and assessed the
data quality. The observational data remains on the science tape
recorder. No anomalies were noted.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4)

The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations
to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30
degrees. These are randomly chosen fields to sample very low
luminosity stars in the solar galactic neighborhood, galactic halo
objects, and distant galaxies. The observational data remains on the
science tape recorder, and will be analyzed alter. No anomalies were
noted.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C194.0
as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology.
The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were
noted. The science observations remain on the science tape recorder,
and will be analyzed later.

1.9 Completed GHRS/2 5398 (Eclipse Mapping of the Chromospheric and
Transition Region Structure)

The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to obtain high signal to
noise ratio spectra of the eclipsing binary star HR2554 (aka,
HD50337) which is a known Zeta Aurigae-Type binary star. This system
consists of a dwarf star and a G6 giant star. The light from the
dwarf will be used as a probe of the outer atmosphere of the giant
star. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies
were noted. The science observations remain on the science tape
recorder, and will be analyzed later.

2.4 Operations Notes:

All HST onboard subsystems are performing nominally. However, a
guide star acquisition failed due to a FHST update failure. Despite
two attempts to uplink attitude updates to the spacecraft, two
subsequent reacquisitions failed. The pointing difficulties
continued until the HST slewed to a new attitude. (See Items 1.5,
and 2.1)
