HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
DAILY REPORT #923

PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST
Daily Status Report as of 188/1200Z.

1.1 Completed GHRS/2 4476 (Abundance and Distribution of Atomic
Deuterium in the Jovian Upper Atmosphere)

The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make six medium and
high resolution observations profiles of the D-Lyman line emitted at
the limb of the Jovian atmosphere. Modeling will provide the
deuterium abundance and scale height. All six observations were
reported to look okay. One of the observations was a wavelength
calibration, and another observation was a sky background image.

1.2 Completed FOC/96 4821 (Magellanic Cloud Planetary Nebulae: Cycle 3
Med.)

The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make one observation of
the planetary nebulae LMC-l536 which is located in the Large
Magellanic Cloud to determine its mass and age. The observation was
received and displayed in the OSS. It was reported to look okay.

1.3 Completed WFC 4849 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program Cycle 3 High)

The Wide Field Camera was used to make two high latitude sky survey
observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations.
Both observations were displayed in the OSS, and they both were
reported to look okay.

1.4 Completed FOS/BL 4952 (QSO Absorption System Snapshot Survey - Part
2 of 3: Cycle 3 High)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make 2 observation of
quasar 1123+3935 to look for absorption lines at low redshift, and
also emission lines in the QSO's continuum. Both observations were
received and displayed. The 1X3 peakup had maximum counts in the
second group., and the spectrum from the following observations
looked okay.

1.5 Completed FOC/96 4804 (UV Imaging of Nearby Galaxies with FOC/96)

The Faint Object Camera was used to complete one snapshot
ultraviolet observation fo the nearby galaxy ESO-0450-2. The
exposure lasted for ten minutes and used filter F220W. No anomalies
were reported.

1.6 Uplink Updated Ephemeris Tables, Per Moses 2871

1.7 Completed FOS/RD 4953 (QSO Absorption System Snapshot Survey - Part 3
of 3: Cycle 3 High)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make observations of
quasar 1425+2003 to look for absorption lines at low redshift, and
also emission lines in the QSO's continuum. The observations were
executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported.

1.8 Completed GHRS/2 4966 (Spatially Resolved Spectroscopy of Jupiter -
Cycle 3 High)

The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make ultraviolet
spectral observations at given latitudes of the planet Jupiter. The
planetary rotation was not tracked, therefore, the resulting spectra
will be zonal averages. The OSS monitored the observations, and
assessed the data quality. No problems were reported.
