HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
DAILY REPORT #911

PERIOD COVERED: 0800 EST
Daily Status Report as of 169/1200Z.

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Uplinked Updated Ephemeris Tables, Per MOSES 2871

Uplinked at 168/0013Z. No problems reported.

1.2 Completed FOS/RD 4504 (The Inner Regions o Quasars Cycle 3)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make four spectral
observations of the inner regions of the radio loud quasar
MC1196+111. All four observations were received by the science
recorder playback, and displayed in the OSS. They were reported to
appear normal.

1.3 Completed PC 4929 (WF/PC Cycle 2: Improved Dark Calibration)

The Planetary Camera was used to make two dark calibration images.
The two exposures lasted 1200 seconds each, and the camera was
pre-flashed. The dark images were reported to look normal.

1.4 Completed FOS/RD 4784 (Transition comets: UV Search for OH)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations
looking for OH emission line at 3085 A0 on the asteroid OLJATO. The
asteroid has some properties of looking like a comet. The onboard
target acquisition was successful. The spectra was reported to be
rather weak.

1.5 Completed FOC/96 4969 (Search for Quasars Suitable for Subsequent
Observations of He II)

The Faint Object Camera was used to make ultraviolet images of the
quasi-stellar object 1108-0747 to measure the levels of its
ultraviolet flux to see if this object is suitable for subsequent
observation with the FOS and GHRS. They are looking for absorption
features of Helium II at 304 A0. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no problems were reported.

1.6 Completed WFC/PC 4109 (WF/PC Cycle 2 Calibration: Rapid Internal
Monitor)

Both the Planetary Camera and the Wide Field Camera were used to
make internal flat calibration images to check for new forms of
contamination (i.e., daisies and measles), and the possible return
of quantum efficiency hysteresis. The observations were monitored in
the OSS, and the data quality was assessed. No problems were
reported.

1.7 Completed PC 3603 (Snapshots of Protoplanetary Nebulae)

The Planetary Camera was used to make a snapshot image of the
protoplanetary system V354-LAC to study its current morphology. No
problems were reported.

1.8 Completed GHRS/2 4067 (GHRS 1ST Order Grating Spectral Lamp Test)

The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make lamp mini-function
wavelenght calibration observations for the first order gratings.
This was strictly an internal test. No external sources were used.
The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were
reported.

1.9 Completed WFC 5010 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance
Scale. III. M-101. Recovery)

The Wide Field Camera was used for a search fo Cepheid variable
stars in the Sc class spiral galaxy M-101 located in Ursa Major. No
problems were reported.
