1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed FOC/96 4804 (UV Imaging of Nearby Galaxies FOC/96)

The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make one ultraviolet
snapshot image of nearby galaxy ESO-2254-4. The exposure lasted ten
minutes, and used filter F220W. The observations was reported to be
a satisfactory exposure.

1.2 Completed FOC/96 3801 (Search for QSOs Suitable for Subsequent
Observations of He II)

The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make two ultraviolet
images of quasars 1327+113 and 1340+099 to find out if the objects
have sufficient ultraviolet flux for subsequent observations using
the Faint Object Spectrograph and the High Resolution spectrograph.
Both images were received and displayed. No anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed HSP/UV1 1091 (Ultraviolet Pulsations from X-Ray Pulsars)

The High Speed Photometer was used to make single color observations
in the ultraviolet of the X-Ray pulsating binary star GX304-1
looking for an optical counterpart. Three sets of observations were
received. The two target acquisition images showed no target, with
only a few counts in several scattered pixels. The following
science observations had a maximum of only two counts.

1.4 Completed FOS/BL 4203 (Spatially Resolved Spectroscopy of Jupiter
- Cycle 2)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectroscopic
observations of the Great Red Spot and North Pole regions on the
planet Jupiter. This is to look for emissions from 1700 A0 to 2300
A0, and to investigate the chemical composition of the upper
atmosphere in these regions. One observation was received and
displayed for the principal investigator. The other observations
occurred during LOS, and will be investigated later.

1.5 Completed PC 3698 (A Snapshot Survey of the Nuclear Regions of 102
Markarian Galaxies)

The Planetary Camera was used with filter F785LP to make
observations of the Markarian galaxy UGC-1186-1 to study the
morphology and nuclear luminosity function of this galaxy. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were
reported.

2.4 Operations Note:

OTA Breathing Test
------------------

The Breathing Test was executed on the spacecraft on May 25-26. FGS
2 was reactivated for this test since all three FGSs were required.
Repeated astrometry observations were made using a small set of
stars to investigate scale changes ("breathing") in the spacecraft
structure. The flight software was patched to limit the FGS star
selector servo rate to 5141 arc sec/sec. Preliminary indicators are
that the test proceeded as planned. There were sessions of two data
takes each. Each session included guide star acquisitions using fine
lock, followed by parallel data takes involving FGS #2 as the
astrometry FGS, and images from the FOC and WF/PC. Data analysis is
now under way.

Magnetic Sensing System
-----------------------

The spacecraft experienced a period of MSS #1 V2 Channel saturation
on Sunday. The saturation lasted almost 3 hours and cleared after a
spacecraft slew. There was no impact to ongoing operations or the
science program. The anomaly is under investigation.

Flight Software
---------------

An installation of version 9.0 of the DF-224 flight software is
planned for June 9-10. This will be the first time a complete new
DF-224 version has been installed on the spacecraft since launch. A
successful pre-Flight Readiness Review for this installation was
held this week. Final testing of the 9.0 release is under way in the
VEST and DSTIF. Additional communications requirements are being
coordinated with the NCC.
